Creative Art Classes, Photography Exhibit and a Photo Contest Announced at the Botanical Gardens!

Buffalo, NY -  The Botanical Gardens has many creative and educational activities for guests of all ages.  All guests will enjoy Doug Hansgate’s photography exhibit in the Archangel Gallery from August 24 through October 13.  Adults can join in the artistic fun though Drawing and Watercolor Classes from September through December and young artists can enjoy Art Classes for Kids from October through December.  All ages are encouraged to enter the annual Digital Photo Contest by December 31.

Doug Hansgate will present his magnificent photography in the Arcangel Gallery at the Gardens from August 24 through October 13.  Titled Nature, This exhibit will showcase the intricate and artistically thought provoking wonder of succulents and orchids. It will explore the black and white form of photography so often overlooked. Without color our mind is drawn to the more sublime.  The imagery will inspire peace and respect for all that nature has provided.  This exhibit will be open 10am-5pm and admission to the Arcangel Gallery is included with Garden admission.

Adult Drawing and Watercolor Classes will cultivate the creative and inspire the inner artist. All skill levels are welcome to create beautiful drawings with inspiration from the Gardens.  Taught by professional artist Joan Saba, students are guaranteed to create an exquisite piece of work.  Drawing classes will be offered on the following dates; Series DA will be held September 4, 11, 18 and 25; Series DB will be held October 2, 9, 16 and 23 and Series DC will be held October 30, November 6, 13 and 20. Watercolor classes will be offered on the following dates; Series WCA will be held September 9, 16, 23 and 30; Series WCB will be held October 7, 21, 28 and November 4 and Series WCC will be held November 18, 25, December 2 and 9.  All classes are open to the public and will be held from 8:45-10:15am and costs are as follows: $58 per series or $16 per class for Garden members or $64 per series or $17 per class for non-members.

Art Classes for Kids are a fantastic way for children to express themselves by creating their own artistic masterpieces. These multi-medium classes are for kids ages 5-15 and will be offered on the following dates; Series KAA will be held October 5, 19 and November 2; Series KAB will be held November 9, 16 and 30 and Series KAC will be held December 7, 14 and 21.  Classes will be held 9:00-10:30am and costs are as follows; $30 per series or $11 per class for children/grandchildren of Garden members and non-members.

The annual Digital Photography Contest is designed to capture the beauty inside and around the Botanical Gardens.  Amateur photographers of all ages are encouraged to enter the contest.  Categories include Portrait, Plants and Perspective.  The Portrait category welcomes images of friends and family enjoying the Gardens, plants that rock your world should be entered in the Plants category and the Perspective category is designed to capture your perspective of the Gardens’ historic architecture.   Awards include: first, second and third place in each category and the cover of the Gardens’ next newsletter.  Entry forms can be found on the Gardens’ website at www.buffalogardens.com.  Images should be submitted via email to events@buffalogardens.com in a .jpg format by December 31.  Entry fees are as follows: first entry is free and each additional entry is $6 for Garden members and each entry is $8 for non-members.
