Seed Sense

Age Range: Pre-K – Kindergarten

Cost: $12 per student. One adult is admitted free per every five students, additional adults are required to pay regular admission prices.

Group Size: minimum of 15 students, maximum of 80 students per day.

For our littlest learners! This engaging field trip for Pre-K and Kindergarten students includes a hands-on workshop all about seeds, seed germination, and plant development. Students will engage their senses while discovering different types of seeds and planting their own seeds to bring home. Admission to the Botanical Gardens, along with a self-guided scavenger hunt and time to explore our plant collections, is included.

This field trip supports the following NYS P-12 Science Learning Standards:

  • P-LS1-1. Observe familiar plants and animals (including humans) and describe what they need to survive.

  • P-LS1-2. Plan and conduct an investigation to determine how familiar plants/and or animals use their external parts to help them survive in the environment.

  • P-LS3-1. Develop a model to describe that some young plants and animals are similar to, but not exactly like their parents.

  • K-LS1-1. Use Observations to describe patterns of what plants and animals (including humans) need to survive.

  • K-ESS3-1. Use a model to represent the relationship between the needs of different plants or animals (including humans) and the places they live.

Reservations are required for all programs. Please reserve your programs at least three weeks in advance of the desired program date.
