Education Program Assistant (Part-time) - posted February 4, 2013

Candidate must have a minimum two years undergraduate coursework in Education and the Natural Sciences or a NYS Teaching Certificate in the Natural Sciences and at least one year experience working in an educational setting with children and adults.

The Education Program Assistant will be expected to work with Education Department staff to build an understanding of and connection to the mission and vision of the Botanical Gardens and facilitate plant-related, hands-on classes and tours for adult groups, school groups, scout groups and special needs groups. The candidate will assist staff with a variety of programming and events for both children and adults, must have an interest in teaching botany-related subjects and have experience working with children and adults of all ages and abilities. Qualifications include a high level of written and verbal skills, some public speaking experience, must be organized, self-reliant, multi-tasked oriented, a team player and possess a sense of humor. Applicants must also maintain high integrity, a positive attitude and a professional appearance at all times.

This part-time position is for some weekday mornings and most Saturdays. Applicant must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs, possess excellent customer service skills, be able to lift 25 pounds and have a valid New York State Driver’s License.
