A Halloween BOOtanical Celebration and Workshops for Kids are Planned at the Botanical Gardens on October 19

Erin Feeney

Buffalo, NY - The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens announces a fun, indoor family event, the BOOtanical Celebration.  This Halloween celebration will be held on October 19 from 10:00am to 4:00pm. A special Halloween themed make-it, take-it workshop for kids, the Spooky Succulent Garden will also be held on October 19 at 10:00am or 2:00pm.  Visitors are encouraged to attend the BOOtanical Celebration and register for one of the workshops.

The BOOtanical Celebration, sponsored by Wegmans and Fidelis Care, will revel in all things creepy and crawly. Kids and families can make Halloween themed crafts at activity stations scattered throughout the Botanical Gardens, learn about spooky plants at the Botanical Gardens and enjoy Halloween treats and prizes. Activities include hands-on crafts such as: a venus flytrap, a creepy paper pumpkin, a bat and moon creation, mosaic fall leaves and more.  A special visit from the Ice Queen and Ice Princess from Emmalee’s Memories will be a highlight of the event and organizers highly encourage kids and parents to wear their costumes. Activities are best aligned for children ages 4-12, and caregivers of the youngest learners are encouraged to assist.

The BOOtanical Celebration, on October 19 from 10am to 4pm, is included with Botanical Gardens’ admission - $12.50 adults, $11.00 seniors (62+), $11.00 students (13+ with ID), $7.00 Kids 3-12, Botanical Gardens’ members and kids 2 and under are free.  There are no additional fees for the activities. Tickets can be purchased online at buffalogardens.com or inside the Botanical Gardens at the admission desk.

A special Spooky Succulent Garden workshop for kids will be held during the BOOtanical Celebration on October 19 at 10:00am or 2:00pm. No prickly cacti are involved in this desert activity, instead, this fun workshop will study succulents. Succulents are desert plants that store water in their leaves and each participant will create an open garden space in a tray with these thorn-less plants. Organizers will sneak in an educational component and talk about desert biomes, where succulents live, and how they adapt to their environment. Children will add their own creative touches to their succulent garden by choosing from colored sand, gems and a spooky Halloween surprise.

The Spooky Succulent Garden Workshop is $20 for the General Public and $15 for Botanical Garden Members.  Pre-registration is required.  For more information or to register, go to buffalogardens.com or call 716.827.1584 ext. 730.
