Art, Horticulture and Yoga at the Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Gardens is an inspiring place to learn about art, horticulture and wellness. Intermediate and Beginner Watercolor classes will be offered in several different sessions beginning February 27 and a certificate series, Horticulture VI will begin March 18.  New this season, two sessions of Gentle Hatha Yoga and Gentle Power Flow Yoga will be offered beginning March 1.

Adult watercolor classes are taught by professional artist Joan Saba as her talent is exceptional and her hands-on teaching style caters to all skill levels. Intermediate Watercolor classes, for those with previous experience, will be held Monday mornings from 8:45-10:45am.  Sessions include: IWCA - February 27, March 6, 13, and 20; IWCB - April 3, 10, 17, 24;  IWCC - May 1, 8, 15, 22; IWCD - Tuesday -June 6, Mondays - June 12, 19, 26. Beginner Watercolor classes include basic techniques and concepts and will be held on Tuesday Mornings from 8:45-11:15 am and Wednesday Evenings 5:30-8:00 pm. Tuesday morning sessions include: BMA - February 28, March 7, 14, and April 4; BMB - April 11, 18, 25, and May 2; BMC - May 9, 16, 23, 30; BMD - June 13, 20, 27, and July 4. Wednesday evenings sessions include: BEA- March 1, 8, 15, and April 5; BEB - April 12, 19, 26, and May 3; BEC- May 10, 17, 24, 31; BED - June 7, 14, 28 and July 5.

Class size is limited and pre-registration is required. Intermediate Watercolor classes are $60 per series or $17 per class for Botanical Gardens’ members and $66 per series or $18 per class for the general public. Beginner Watercolor classes are $65 per series or $18 per class for Botanical Gardens’ members and $70 per series or $20 per class for the general public. Horticulturist David Clark returns to the Botanical Gardens with an enlightening Horticulture Certificate Program, Horticulture VI.  David is a dynamic instructor with a wealth of knowledge. His classes are very popular as he conveys subject matter with infectious enthusiasm. These classes are great for beginners who would like to learn more about gardening as well as experts looking to refine their skills.

Horticulture VI will be offered Saturdays from 11 am-1 pm beginning March 18 and will include 5 classes. First in the series on March 18 is Great Grasses and Lawn Care, on April 22 Color Theory and Texture in Gardens, on April 29 World Tour of Garden Design, on June 3 Tough Plants for Tough Sites, and on June 10 Edible Plants and Composting.

Participants are welcome to enroll in a full series for a certificate or individual classes to brush up on skills.  Classes are held in the administration building located on the Botanical Gardens’ campus.  The full series is $100 or $22 for individual classes for garden members, $120 or $27 for individual classes for non-members and the general public. Come find balance both mentally and physically at Yoga in The Gardens. These sessions are led by Leanne Oldenbrook owner of Oasis Yoga and Wellness and yoga instructor for 12 years. Gentle Hatha Yoga consists of gentle stretches designed to increase flexibility and strength. This class is suitable for all levels but especially students with injuries or limitations. Gentle Power Flow Yoga, features relaxation, stretching and some Pilate’s postures introduced to build strength and endurance, this class is designed for those looking for a more dynamic workout.

Both sections of yoga will be offered Wednesdays beginning March 1 and will consist of a spring and a summer session.  Gentle Hatha Yoga will run from 5:30- 6:45 pm and Gentle Power Flow Yoga 7:00-8:15 pm. The spring session includes: March 1, 8, 15, 22, April 5, 12, 19, 26, and May 3, 10. The summer session will include, June 7, 14 or 21 or 28, July 5, 12, 19, 26 and August 2, 9, 16.
