Botanical Gardens’ Make-It, Take-Its become Take-It, Make-Its!

Erin Grajek

Buffalo, NY - The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens announced they will be offering their traditional on-site Make-It, Take-It programs as Take-It, Make-It virtual programs to be held via ZOOM. These one-night workshops include a new smoke cleansing workshop called Good Vibes and Good Times as well as the traditional Fresh Thanksgiving Arrangement, Fresh Boxwood Tree, Fresh Conifer Wreath and Fresh Holiday Arrangement workshops.

As opposed to the traditional in-person, on-site workshops, participants will now be able to pick up their materials curbside at the Botanical Gardens and make their project from the comfort of their home. The Take-It, Make-It workshops are a fun way to safely bring participants together during this time of uncertainty. Reversing the Make-It, Take-It workshops allow for more physical space, creativity, and comfort.

The new smoke cleansing workshop, Good Vibes and Good Times, will take place on Thursday, November 5 from 6:30pm-7:30pm. Participants will learn about the benefits and cultural background of smoke cleansing, how to create their own floral and blue sage bundle and how to use it in their chosen space. Each DIY kit includes ethically sourced materials of loose blue sage, loose cedar leaves, lavender stems and buds, cotton string, a Palo Santo stick, and a cinnamon stick, which will be available for curbside pickup. This workshop is taught by instructor, Courtney Elle, of Elle James Interiors. Courtney is one of the Botanical Gardens' newest instructors. As the owner of Elle James, her business creates custom decor for your home, office or business. She incorporates holistic wellness and focuses on enhancing spaces by infusing positive energy through thoughtful decor and energy cleansing plants, flowers and herbs. The cost of this class is $40 for the general public and $36 for members of the Botanical Gardens.

The Fresh Thanksgiving Arrangement will be held on Thursday, November 19 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. This annual autumnal arrangement is perfect for creating a beautiful Thanksgiving table centerpiece. Using seasonal floral material and greenery, participants will be amazed by their ability to create an arrangement that looks professionally designed or store bought. All materials including florals, greenery, accents, and an OASIS block will be available for curbside pickup. This workshop will be taught by the Botanical Gardens’ Education Director, Kristy Schmitt. The cost is $50 for the general public and $45 for members of the Botanical Gardens.

The Fresh Boxwood Arrangement will be offered on Saturday, December 5 from 9:00am to 11:00am or Sunday, December 6 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm in coordination with the Fresh Conifer Wreath class for those who wish to participate in both workshops. This seasonal favorite workshop allows participants to create their very own miniature boxwood tree. The instructor will demonstrate how to create the tree using fresh boxwood branches and an OASIS block. Materials will be available for curbside pickup. Participants are encouraged to decorate their tree using their own materials. This workshop will be taught by Botanical Gardens’ Education Coordinator, Jolene Baj. The cost is $50 for the general public and $45 for members of the Botanical Gardens.

The Fresh Conifer Wreath will be held on Saturday, December 5 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm or Sunday, December 6 from 9:00am to 11:00am in coordination with the Fresh Boxwood Arrangement class for those who wish to participate in both workshops. This popular workshop will teach participants how to create a fragrant 14’ conifer wreath from scratch. Using a circular frame, wire, and fresh conifer branches, participants will be amazed by their beautiful, holiday decor. Materials will be available for curbside pickup. This class will be taught by Botanical Gardens’ Education Coordinator, Jolene Baj. The cost is $50 for the general public and $45 for members of the Botanical Gardens.

The Fresh Holiday Arrangement will take place on Thursday, December 17 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. This seasonal arrangement is perfect for creating a beautiful holiday table centerpiece or to give as a gift. Using seasonal floral material and greenery, participants will be amazed by their ability to create an arrangement that looks professionally designed or store bought. All materials including florals, greenery, accents, and an OASIS block will be available for curbside pickup.
