Celebrate Halloween at the BOOtanical Gardens!

Shaunna Rospierski

This Halloween is obviously going to look much different from years past as we face the global health crisis. The BOOtanical Gardens staff has worked hard to put together an event that is both safe and fun for the whole family with our BOOTanical Celebration to be held on October 17 and 18 from 10am-4pm.

In September, we held our first indoor event since reopening on July 15, 2020. The Fairy Festival was a great learning experience as we were able to see what our limited capacity truly looked like in our conservatory in these unprecedented times. Our timed E-ticketing process went flawlessly and visitors were able to wander through our enchanted Fairy Gardens with plenty of social distancing space. Unfortunately, we had to remove some of our beloved aspects of our traditional Fairy Festival such as the Fairy and Gnome House Contest as well as our magical, musical visitors in order to maintain a safe environment. After analyzing what we accomplished with the Fairy Festival, we can’t wait to share what we have in store for our BOOtanical Celebration.

Though our costume contest and treats cannot take place this year, the BOOtanical Celebration will be the most spooktacular indoor event that is fun for the whole family. When you arrive at the BOOtanical Gardens, have your E-tickets ready to be scanned. As you enter the main Palm Dome, you will be greeted with an activity booklet to complete as you creep through the conservatory. Find some spooky-named plants in our Halloween Scavenger Hunt and count how many ghosts and pumpkins you can find in each greenhouse. Tiptoe through the graveyard, peek at the carnivorous collection, and prance through the pumpkin patch. Don’t forget to check out our brand new courtyard and see what spooky surprises we have in store. Then stop at the photobooth to snap a photo in front of our Halloween scene to capture the memories. Once you have completed your activity booklet, you will be able to claim a prize! At the end of your journey through the Gardens, be sure to pick up your take-home craft bag to extend the BOOtanical fun at home!

Pre-purchased timed E-tickets are highly recommended to all visitors, including members, due to capacity limitations. Walk-ins may be turned away if capacity is surpassed. To maintain our capacity limit and the safety of both visitors and staff, we encourage visitors to limit their visit to 1-1.5 hours. Masks are required for all visitors over the age of 2 and costumes are optional but strongly encouraged!

Not quite comfortable attending an event yet? Bring the BOOtanical Gardens home with you with our Halloween Mini Garden Online WorkshopCreate a fun and spooky succulent garden just in time for Halloween. This fun garden activity is perfect for kids and families but everyone is welcome! Succulents are easy to care for and come in so many different varieties. Containers, soil, plants and décor are included. In order to maintain the safest environment possible, class will be offered via Zoom Meeting, a free online audio-visual platform on October 22 from 6:30pm-7:30pm. The cost is $25 for the general public and $22.50 for members of the Botanical Gardens.

All supplies included with curbside pick-up - Curbside pick-up for materials will occur from 4:30-5:30pm the day of class.

The safety of our visitors and staff is of the utmost importance, and we thank you for your anticipated cooperation during this difficult time. We need your support now more than ever as our 4 month closure has created a significant loss in revenue. As a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, we rely almost exclusively on admissions, membership, special events, and your charitable donations to maintain operation and care for our 22,000+ plant collection as well as providing meaningful and educational programming. We appreciate your support, and stay tuned for other upcoming fun, family events!
