Watercolor IV – Intermediate Expression – ONLINE
Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30pm

Find inspiration in nature around you, photos you love or from a photo the teacher supplies. Work on your own watercolor painting from start to finish with help from an expert every step of the way. This series will take you on a creative journey to recreate and enhance an image of your choice. This class is suitable for anyone 16 and older with some previous watercolor painting experience who would like to move beyond the basics. Two-hour classes are taught by Deanna Weinholtz. In order to maintain the safest environment possible, classes will be offered via Zoom Meeting, a free online audio-visual platform.

All adult classes and workshops are recorded and are available for four weeks after the class. Therefore, if you miss a class, you will have four weeks to catch up on the class at your convenience. Review our class information and procedures for more information.

Sunset Inspired Cloud Formations

The stunning array of colors created within a sunset influence the colors within cloud formations. This Intermediate level class will explore simple cloud formations created in watercolor as well as more complex formations that include reflections from a sunset within the clouds.

A basic understanding of perspective will help you create a sense of depth in your paintings and drawings. We will cover atmospheric perspective and linear perspective. Atmospheric perspective utilizes values and colors to create a sense of depth. Linear perspective creates an illusion of depth on a flat surface. Size, shape, and position of objects are determined by drawn or imagined lines converging at a vanishing point.

From calm water to wavy water and choppy water with whitecaps, painting water in watercolors can be a challenge. Deanna will break down the steps to help you be successful in this challenge. We will utilize several different techniques and materials such as watercolor pencils, gouache, a toothbrush and a magic eraser to create water samples. Then we will applying these new skills to a full painting of water.

Meet your instructor, Deanna Weinholtz!
Deanna Weinholtz is a watermedia artist from Western New York who is best known for her luminous landscapes and seascapes in watercolor and acrylics. Her creations have won national and regional awards and have been displayed in numerous exhibitions and galleries. A graduate of State University College at Buffalo with a degree in design, Deanna is a working professional fine artist. She shares her knowledge and love of painting through teaching and demos online, as well as in classroom. Deanna is an Exhibiting member of Buffalo Society of Artists where she is Exhibitions Chair and serves on the Board of Directors, a Signature Member in Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society, an Exhibiting Member of Pittsburgh Watercolor Society and is an Associate Member of Philadelphia Watercolor Society. www.deannaweinholtz.com
