The bright yellowish orange flowers attract a number of pollinators and are a great source of nectar for butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. The flowers are clustered in umbels, which act as a landing platform with multiple nectar sources close together. Butterflies are also known to use this as a host plant for eggs and young caterpillars to feed on. Unlike other Asclepias, it does not have the milky sap. Plant in drifts or clusters to not only help pollinators, but to add bright pops of color and interest to your garden space. Butterfly weed is drought tolerant and does well in poor soil.
