Meet your Instructor, Travis Schmitt!

Travis Schmitt has been a bonsai hobbyist for fourteen years. Growing up in the country, he has always held a love and appreciation for trees. He became interested in bonsai by attending a meeting of the Buffalo Bonsai Society and was hooked from there! He currently has over one hundred bonsai trees of various species, styles and sizes. Three of the trees in his collection he has had since the beginning; a juniper, a crabapple and a lovely Chinese elm but it is hard for him to pick a favorite.

Travis’ love for plants goes deep; he has done many landscapes over the years and has worked for various garden centers and greenhouses including Murray Brothers and Kenneth Henry and Sons Greenhouse Growers. Travis also has been a trained docent for the Botanical Gardens. He likes to chat with people about plants and answer any questions they have, especially when it comes to trees.
