October brings an Orchid Show, a Medicinal Garden Feature and the Chrysanthemum Show to the Botanical Gardens
Buffalo, NY - The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens will
hold its annual fall Orchid Show and Sale on October 13 (10am -5pm) and October
14 (10am-3pm), a Medicinal Garden Feature to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness
& Flu Prevention Month on October 13 from (10am-2pm) and the 107th Annual
Chrysanthemum Show from October 20-November 11 (10am -5pm daily).
The Orchid Show will be
held on October 13 from 10am -5pm and October 14 from 10am-3pm in partnership
with the Niagara Frontier Orchid Society. This vibrant show will include orchid
displays featuring some of the most spectacular orchids in the world; some are
super exotic varieties that are rarely seen in full bloom. With admission, show
goers will enjoy the breathtaking Botanical Gardens, unique orchids and
displays, orchid-specific demonstrations and informal question and answer
sessions. Vendors will offer orchid merchandise, flowers, and plants for sale
to complement this wonderful show.
The Niagara Frontier Orchid Society’s mission is to promote the culture and enjoyment of orchids, and aims to further every member's orchid related knowledge. October is Breast Cancer
Awareness & Flu Prevention Month and we are celebrating with a Medicinal
Garden Feature on October 13 from 10am-2pm. Activities include Educational
displays about the possible role of botanicals in preventing the seasonal flu,
and also the use of plants in treating and researching cancer. Western New York
affiliate of Susan G. Komen
for the Cure will be on hand to answer questions and provide informational materials. If you are interested, Rite Aid Pharmacists will be available to give flu shots to attendees 18 or older. Please bring your health insurance card and your driver’s license. Shot supplies are limited and will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. The Medicinal Garden is made possible by a partnership with D’Youville College School of Pharmacy and Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, part of Catholic Health.
The 107th Annual Chrysanthemum
Show will take place at the Gardens October 20-November 11 from 10am-5pm
daily. Mums are a sure sign of chillier temperatures, but their vibrant colors
add warmth and beauty to any fall day. These beautiful flowers come in all
shapes and sizes, from pale yellow round pompoms to huge bronze footballs.
Thousands of mums in over 20 varieties will fill the historic glass-domed
conservatory. Tall standards, cascades and new and unusual flower types will
give the flower show drama and dimension.
