The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens is looking for an innovative and highly motivated individual for the full time position of Director of Horticulture.

This position will be responsible for providing leadership, planning and management of the plant collections, gardens and grounds; management of planting and maintenance schedules; daily activities of the horticulture staff (comprised of full time, part time and volunteer staff); direct, train and motivate the horticulture staff to ensure the best possible care, maintenance and aesthetic standards are upheld for the gardens and grounds.

This position also requires experience in maintaining an extensive horticultural collection from around the world including tropical plants; knowledge of plant Latin and common names; greenhouse management and propagation; designing indoor and outdoor displays and annual flower shows; organization and implementation of the year-round plant, garden and landscape maintenance plan.

Excellent organizational skills, experience in developing and managing a budget, effective written and oral communication skills and an operational knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

This position requires a degree in horticulture, botany or related field from an accredited college or university with at least five years of horticulture related experience. This position will report to the President/CEO of the Gardens and the candidate should possess a New York State Pesticide Applicators License and a valid NYS driver's license. This position also requires a flexible work schedule including some evenings and weekends.

Educational Grant News

The Botanical Gardens was very fortunate to receive significant funding in 2012 to support our free hands-on educational programs for Buffalo Public School children.

We are grateful to the following organizations, corporations, and foundations for their support, totaling nearly $25,000, and allowing us to provide programming at no cost to more than 1,600 Buffalo Public School children in second, third, and sixth grades!
