Tropical Orchard
Fruits are important to the health and wellbeing of people and animals around the planet. However, they are even more important to the plants who produce them! Fruits play a vital role in many plants’ lifecycles and reproduction.
- All fruits emerge from flowers. When a plant flowers, it often does so in order to attract a pollinator. Once a flower has been pollinated, the ovary inside the flower will develop into a fruit. Fruits provide a safe, protected space for seeds to develop.
- All fruits contain seeds. Seeds are one of the most important parts of the plant. They contain an embryo that will eventually germinate into a new plant and ensure the survival of their species.
- Many fruits have developed characteristics to help disperse seeds throughout the environment. Animals often help spread seeds while munching on tasty fruits. They can drop the seeds while eating, or sometimes even spread them after they’ve been digested.
