Our grounds and arboretum

Located within a park system designed by Frederick Law Olmsted in the 1800s, the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens is situated on 12 acres that also feature an accredited arboretum and lush outdoor gardens. Designed by Lord & Burnham, our historic conservatory, modeled after rare glasshouses in London, England, opened in 1900. Our grounds have been designated as a Level II Arboretum through ArbNet, Our arboretum is home to over 100 trees, some of which are considered ‘original Olmstead plantings’ and are over 125 years old.

Our arboretum

South Park

One of Frederick Law Olmsted’s original designs, this 156-acre park is home to a picturesque lake, a tree-studded meadow, winding pedestrian paths for walking, a nine hole golf course, and its own arboretum separate from the Botanical Gardens. The walking path is an enjoyable 1.5 mile loop, and we encourage visitors to enjoy the park before or after their visit! The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy
manages South Park that surrounds the Botanical Gardens’ campus.
