Bring a bit of the Botanical Gardens indoors with this fun a popular class! Discover how low maintenance closed tropical terrariums are while creating a truly special piece. Containers, soil, plants and supplies are included. In order to maintain the safest environment possible, class will be offered via Zoom Meeting, a free online audio-visual platform.
All supplies included with curbside pick-up - Curbside pickup for materials will occur from 4:30-5:30pm the day of class.
Kristy is the Director of Education at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens. As a certified teacher for both Birth-Grade 2 and 7-12 Biology, she has been teaching children and adults of all ages all about plants at the Botanical Gardens. She has also been a long-standing workshop instructor and lecturer for a wide variety of programs both onsite and in the local community at libraries and other community centers. She loves plants, particularly trees and mosses and enjoys sharing the botanical world with everyone!
Her background is in Science Education with a MS from Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Forest Biology with a focus on Natural History Interpretation from SUNY-ESF. Kristy held educational positions with the Pioneer School district, Buffalo Audubon Society, and the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse before starting at the Botanical Gardens in 2012. Most recently, she became a Certified Nursery and Landscape Professional in 2017 and serves on the executive board of PLANT-WNY.
Kristy is extremely knowledgeable about the natural world and loves to share her passion with her daughter, Linden. She is a fun and super energetic instructor that exudes a love of plants.
